EQ-Emotional Intelligence for Peak Performance
EQ-Emotional Intelligence for Peak Performance Shaheen's example, love the concept of EQ. When Daniel Goleman wrote his book Emotional Intelligence in 1995, his premise that 90% of our success has little do with our IQ made sense and caught on in personal and organizational development circles. What counts is your self awareness, self regulation, and empathy as well as your ability to be motivated and motivate others. Another key component is your ability to communicate and relate in social and business settings. As I am writing this I am watching Oprah interviewing the young Welsh singer Shaheen Jafargholi, who won the approval of Simon Cowell on Britain's talent show. If you watched the segment...

How to Have More Patience RIGHT NOW!
Patience is a virtue, have it if you can It's always in a woman, but never in a man I heard that growing up and it certainly was lacking in this man! And we joke about our lack of patience but don't you secretly wish you could find more patience with [insert name]? The Bible (whether you accept its authority or not) has a good definition of love and guess what it starts with: Love is patient! 1 Corinthians 13 Why does it start with that? Well, my guess is that unconditional love makes allowances for people to do and say and be at their own pace, not ours. And this, I believe is the crux of the problem. When you are being impatient, are you not saying : 'According to my standards you are not going...
Patience Has the Power to Rule the World
Patience is defined as "is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances." This can mean many different things to various people. This can mean persevering in times of hardship or abuse, or avoiding rash action or becoming needlessly angry. Patience is more like a non-reaction than a reaction. Whenever there is conflict or some form of discomfort in our lives, our first reaction-indeed our instinct-is to react. We usually react with vehemence when we are scared or agitated. We lash out, we lose our tempers, we criticize. Though conflict and reaction is just a part of human nature, such rash thinking has been responsible for great bloodshed, world wars, premature death and years and years of...
Ways to Control Anger
Anger is a negative emotion and we all become victims of it at some time or other and as with all negative emotions cannot be overcome easily. Although this may take time and effort to implement, you need to identify ways to control anger. Most of us have broken or damaged something in the heat of the moment or in a fit of anger and when reflecting on our actions, have regretted it. But the regret does not last and before long it happens again. If not controlled, anger could affect your relationship with your partner or members of your family who at various times could become victims of your seemingly uncontrollable anger although this is not intentional on your part. Most of the time the reason for...
Developing and Implementing Supply Strategies
The basis of developing and implementing a supply strategy is to organize that strategy, tactics and management approach to effectively link them to the overall goals of the company. The key segments to include in that strategy are risk to the organization, cost and value to the organization and the market complexity in the sourcing arena. Risk is the extent of negative outcomes if the good or service is of low quality, too expensive or becomes unavailable. Cost and value is usually measured in dollars but it could also have an intrinsic value as well. Examples of high risk are those supply items that come from a single supplier while examples of low risk supply items would be things such as office...
If Jobs Picture Continues to Improve It Could Be 5 Times More Difficult to Get a New Job in 2010
While the latest jobs report indicated that there might at last be a glimmer of hope for the jobless,* I wouldn't recommend breaking out the champagne to celebrate quite yet. Why? Because, if the job market continues to improve (still a BIG "if," of course!), it likely will serve as the "trigger" for the 60 to 80 million people (over one-half of the currently employed) who have indicated in recent surveys conducted by and Manpower, Inc. that they intend to "jump ship" for new career opportunities once the economy is truly on the mend. So, if this exodus actually occurs, rather than the current average of six applicants for every open position in the job market, there easily could be an average of...

Having the license will also allow bidding on jobs and doing subcontracting work. Subcontracting work is the second entity that needs to be satisfied. A general contractor on a project will contract work to qualified businesses based on licensing...

Recruiters Prefer Someone They Know
v> If a recruiter has a position open, guess who their first move is when they want to fill it. If you guessed posting a job on a job site, you're wrong (at least most of the time). Recruiters are like any other human being and they want to get their work done with the least amount of effort. So a recruiter's first move is usually to call (or email) someone they already know. Posting a job on a job site is time consuming and typically requires having to deal with a deluge of responses (most job ads yield 300+ candidates responding with their resumes). It's much easier for the recruiter to try someone they know first. Being the Candidate the Recruiter Calls First In addition to the hassle associated...

CVs Recruiters Will Love
Recruiters like CVs or resumes that tell them everything they need to know within seconds. They don't like CV's which are several pages long and where the key facts are hidden deep inside the text. Most recruiters look for CVs or resumes by searching online databases, such as Monster. They search by keyword, by region, and by date. It's important to refresh your CV every few days or at the very least every couple of weeks - recruiters rarely look at CV's that have not been updated in the last month. Having searched by keyword the recruiter then scans down the list of CV's and picks those with the most relevant headlines. They then pull up the CV itself - on most PCs only the top half of the first...
How Recruiters Find People
In my 29 years of recruiting, I have talked with and trained over 200 recruiters around the country in advanced recruiting techniques. Given this, I've learned two things 1) the recruiting industry is not homogeneous and 2) we all may be different, but there is one constant; how we find people. There really isn’t anything all that unique about how recruiters go about locating potential candidates. We all use our networks and other people’s networks. This includes both on-line networks such as Linkedin (Click here to join our Linkedin Job Search Group) and off-line such as networking groups in our community. So why is this important to candidates?Because the...
Recruiters Are Human Too!
Humans are animals and animal behaviour is hard wired and mostly predictable. One behaviour in particular: People always choose the easiest way to get what they need. Which doesn’t mean our needs can’t be complex or irrational or altruistic. Just that given a choice we always choose the easiest path. Now job seekers who have had 40 unreturned phone calls would argue, but recruiters are human beings. They will find and choose the easiest path to make the money to feed their kids and to support their favourite charity. The point of this Rant is to look at the way most employers work with recruiters: They brief 3 recruiters for the same job. What the recruiters...
A Snowball in Hell by Christopher Brookmyer
A Snowball in Hell both reunites and bring together characters from two of Christopher Brookmyer's previous books, The Sacred Art of Stealing and A Big Boy Did It and Ran Away, namly Simon Darcout, Zal Innez and Angelique De Zavier. While not it's not essential to have read the previous titles it would probably make the opening chapters of this book easier to get into as numerous back references are made which could leave you thinking you have missed something. This is a book very much influenced by the current world, something that becomes clear as it takes in religious terrorism, reality TV, the shallow world of celebrity and the popularity of the instant voyeurism available on the internet 24/7...

Good Intentions Could Lead to Family Feuds
To begin with, actually doing this can be a daunting task if you try to predetermine every item. In fact, many who have tried later find that after making an attempt to do this, they determined it could never be done in reality. But here is where it gets confusing. A recruiter WILL present a candidate to a client even if the client has not listed an open position, if he or she feels that the client would be...

Executive Coaching - What's in a Name?
It bothers me when people call themselves 'coaches' and they don't really coach. Executive coaching is a skill that all leaders and managers of people should have. Coaching is to get inside the person and look out from where they are. To be a new pair of eyes with which to see the world around them, its problems and opportunities. This is inspirational work. That is to say coaching is a mechanism for inspiration, to encourage, motivate and instill belief into those who either may have lost it or who need more of it to do their job and make the decisions they need to make.
